Blogging

Is a blog a journal? Or more like self-published short stories? I want to write more but often feel like there's not much to say. I think the reason I keep this up is because of people like Masiguy, 198, and Fat Cyclist. Or Zeroboy and Madcapper. But I think if I'm going to keep this up, I need to be a little more purposeful about it.

I guess it's your own little forum that becomes what you make of it, but for me it hasn't yet really come out the way I intended. That's one reason why I wonder why I even have it or have trouble trying to write regularly. But whether people read it or not, it is nice to share thoughts once in a while that people have the opportunity to respond to.

I just hope it doesn't create global insecurity where people are too shy to share things face to face, because I think part of the attraction is some level of detachment and anonymity - but then again, that includes facebook, myspace, etc., etc., etc.

I saw a mock-motivational poster once that said something to the effect of: "BLOGGING: Never have so many people written so little about so many things to so many people who don't care." That being said, there are some blog gems out there.

What exactly are you intending with your blog?

I think my original idea was to be a sort of critic on new arts and media in the culture, but then I realized I don't go to enough shows, read enough books, watch enough movies, visit enough galleries, etc. Needless to say, without the proper time to keep up with all that the idea was flushed rather quickly.

Now it's really random, but probably more of a tool to let Mom and Dad --and others-- know what I've been thinking about most of the time since I'm not one to call home very often.

Doesn't that always seem to be the case. And when you do have stuff to write about, it seems like such a chore. You could always start with the book and movies...those are usually plentiful enough around a college campus. And I agree with you about the information part of the blog. It's just a little radar blip for anyone who cares to read...or even knows how to find it.
